Brahms - Piano Concerto no. 2 in B flat major, op. 83 with Samson Tsoy, pianist
Schumann - Symphony no. 2 in C major, op. 61
This spring, the Fidelio Orchestra is teaming up with world-renowned pianist Samson Tsoy for a performance of epic proportions, beginning with Brahms’ Second Piano Concerto. With his customary sense of humour, Brahms dubbed this titanic and grandiose piece his ‘tiny little concerto’ - once you’ve heard it played, you’ll appreciate the irony… In this piece, the piano and orchestra work together in a way that audiences of the time had never before experienced, redefining the meaning of the term ‘concerto’.
We’ll end the concert with Schumann's Second Symphony, a thrilling and uplifting piece that symbolised for its composer a triumph over long spells of depression.
These two pieces, standing three decades apart, epitomise the seduction of the ‘high Romantic’ period and promise to make this an evening of pure indulgence.
